The Monkey and the Crocodile-Jataka Tales

Once upon a time, there lived a monkey who lived in a tree on the banks of a river. One day, a crocodile who lived in the river came to the monkey and asked him to share some of his fruit.

The monkey agreed and gave the crocodile some fruit from the tree. The crocodile enjoyed the fruit so much that he came back every day to get more.

As the days went on, the monkey and the crocodile became good friends. The crocodile even invited the monkey to come and visit him in his home in the middle of the river.

The monkey agreed to the invitation and hopped onto the crocodile's back for a ride. However, halfway across the river, the crocodile revealed his true intentions and said that he wanted to eat the monkey.

The monkey, realizing the danger he was in, thought quickly and said, "If you eat me, you will regret it. I have a magical heart that is worth a fortune, and if you take it to the king, he will reward you greatly."

The crocodile believed the monkey and took him back to the shore, where the monkey jumped off his back and climbed back up into his tree. From that day on, the monkey refused to go near the river and never again trusted the crocodile.

The moral of the story is that one should always be wary of those who are not true friends and to be clever in dealing with them.
