The Clever Cat -Jataka Tales

 The Clever Cat

Once upon a time, there was a clever cat named Pangur who lived in a monastery. Pangur spent his days chasing mice and catching them to eat.

One day, a group of mice came up with a plan to outsmart Pangur. They held a meeting and decided that they would tie a bell around the neck of one of the mice so that Pangur could never catch them by surprise.

The mice chose a young mouse named Ravi to wear the bell, and he bravely volunteered for the task. However, Pangur was clever and soon figured out what the mice were up to. He waited patiently for Ravi to come out of his hiding place and pounced on him, catching him by surprise.

Pangur then took the bell off of Ravi's neck and put it around his own neck. He then chased the other mice, jingling the bell and causing them to flee in terror.

The mice were amazed at how clever Pangur was and praised him for his intelligence. From then on, they respected and admired the clever cat, and Pangur never had to worry about chasing mice again.

The moral of the story is that intelligence and quick thinking can often overcome even the most difficult challenges.
